Hearing that nobody cares about you is usually pretty harsh. It's downright hurtful. But when it comes to fitness, it's a good thing. There may not be a single person outside of your significant other that actually cares about your health habits. Even your close family and friends probably don't care all that much unless things have gotten to an extreme point for you. I can't think of a single person's health habits that I really care about. Obviously, I want my family and friends to be healthy, but I also want them to be happy, and however they want to balance that is really up to them.
Too often, people get self-conscious about their health. They get in their head that somebody is actually going to care whether they eat a salad at work. They think people are going to gawk at them as they power walk around the neighborhood. And they think that people are watching them while at the gym, silently judging them.
But trust me, nobody cares about you. You don't need to be self-conscious, because you simply aren't that important to strangers. You're probably not that important to close friends. I can't say I remember anything from seeing friends working out. I judge every single runner I come across, but I can only remember two people in the thousands of miles that I have ran on the road. One was this time I saw one of the most beautiful people I have ever seen in person running on this backroad in Iowa. The other was actually on that same road (although a few miles down it) when a 50-year-old dude with a windbreaker wrapped around his waist absolutely floated by me. I was straining; he was effortless, and he absolutely kicked my ass. It's been nearly a decade, and I still haven't gotten over it.
Anyway, neither of those situations probably describes you, but if you're that old dude, please tell me your secrets. So nobody is going to actually remember you. Even at your best, I could only remember your actions and never put a face to it. I have seen so much stupid bullshit at the gym that a person struggling with a workout doesn't even register in my brain. You have to be creatively stupid for people to take the time to notice you.
So just do the shit that you enjoy, and if you look like an asshole doing it, so be it, because I assure you that nobody actually cares about what you are doing to maintain your health.
